12th June 2014. The malaria epidemic which started from 10th June 2014 in some villages of Dhalai Tripura and have escalated to other districts and areas in Khowai, South, Gomati and North Tripura districts. Presently, malaria epidemic situation is contained in the state but everyday fever cases continue to be reported from all districts of Tripura. The current outbreak of malaria in Tripura has taken lives to over 100 deaths. Most of the death reported are from the age group of 6 months to 3 years and below 15 years were mostly affected. Almost all the death reported are from Dhalai Tripura and few deaths from North, South, Khowai, Gomati and Sipahijala District of Tripura. With a massive infected population of around 2, 52, 783 with fever cases and 44,302 positive cases in Tripura. Some of the villages East Gobindabari, West Gobindabari, Malidhar, Rajdhar, Natinmanu, and Manipur under Longthrai valley sub-division in Dhalai district and large hill tracts of Chawmanu and Gandhacherra under Dhalai Tripura were the worst hit and Mungiakami block of Khowai Tripura. Epidemic was seen in other districts like the North, South, and Gomati Tripura with few reported cases of death but not worst as compared to Dhalai Tripura. Taking this into account we are scared that malaria epidemic may continue for some more time due to hot weather conditions and few spells of rain in an around Tripura. We are not only scared of malaria but raising alarm for Japanese Encephalitis, Dengue and water borne diseases. We need to aware the masses regarding all these diseases. We will need to reach the unreached population for providing free medical assistance to all the high risk areas.
